Lately, I have been researching Appen Butler Hill, and learning about what they have to offer. Appen appears to offer very solid work from opportunities and from what I can see, they offer a wide variety of positions from social media evaluation to crowdsourcing. Overall, Appen sounds very promising, if you are currently working for Appen, or have worked for them in the past, we would love to hear about your experience! www.appen.com/company/opportunities/

Hello everyone! I as well have received an email for a three part assessment test for the position called web search evaluator. I have worked with lion bridge in the past can that affect my chances getting hired? Welcome Amber! Great question, and as far as I know, with Appen it should be fine especially since it is a different position than the one you originally had. You are headed into uncharted territory in the sense I don't know many who have taken this route but that is not a bad thing! You could always email them to make sure, but I would imagine they have at least skimmed over your information already in order to verify you are someone who meets their criteria. Let me know how it goes and perhaps someone has taken this route before and can offer us more information. Thanks for stopping in Amber

I worked for Appen for a while and was let go out of the blue. They pay on time and well. I was very sad to loose the position. If you get a position with them make sure and follow the guidelines strictly and focus all of your attention to the job at hend during work hours. It is well worth your time to get hired by this company. though everyone I know applied for a job with them so if you are approached you are lucky.

I have been looking at Appen and isoftstone, but I have a mac and they require Microsoft OS. I was thinking of buying a cheap windows laptop to utilize these opportunities. I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions or any thoughts on if it were worth it. I am a teacher and therefore am always looking for ways to supplement my income. Thanks!

I worked as an SME for Appen for a year. It's very mind numbing and you have to adhere to a schedule. I got burned out from all the typing and quit. I'm still debating whether to take another position with them. Due to the NDA, I can't say much. But I will say that it is not a flexible job.

Thanks for stopping in voleball39! In my experience isoftstone is the way to go! Appen can be great option but it they are less flexible and in general it takes much longer to hear back. One of our members has been with isoftstone since 2012 so definitely worth a look . Let me know how it goes

I have heard similar experiences from others who have worked as social media evaluators. With that being said, it could work great for some depending on the situation. Blessings my friend!

I am curious if anyone else has crowdsourcing or social media evaluating experience with Appen? From what I have read the social media position requires you to work at least four hours a day, five days a week. Seems a little restricting but it could be nice to have consistent hours on weekly basis. The reason I ask is because I have seen quite a few job openings for them lately. I appreciate your insight Sparky, the typing would get to me as well!

My SO works as a Social Media Evaluator for Appen. The new system makes sure she stays around 3 minutes per task, which ends up in ~3 hours. Then you do a short "Bake Off", which takes about 5 minutes, three hours after you initially finished, and you have to do that before midnight. It is consistent, but you need to work 5 days a week and you need that three hour block in between your initial work and the bakeoff. I believe she also said her project was for 3 months only. Not sure if they will offer more work after that. Oh, and you need to have a Facebook account.

I am glad she is able to work for Appen raterofthelostark, that is awesome! This will really help paint a picture for everyone in case they are interested . Appen has a unique way of doing things with the required three hour break but, if it is timed right I can't imagine it would be a problem at all. I am certainly going to keep this as an option, it sounds more promising then the crowdsourcing Appen offers but I don't know much about that position. I believe those who do crowdsourcing are paid per task (just a few cents per task from what I hear) but, perhaps for speedy raters it could end up being very profitable. Thanks for your response raterofthelostark it is very appreciated!

Four hours became 3.5 very quickly. Another thing to keep in mind is tax implications. I just did my taxes and I am soooo glad that I had the foresight to save money each month. If you spend your entire monthly paycheck, you're going to have a rude awakening when tax time rolls around.
