Eyyy nice! Great to meet a fellow English major doing the same things I am. Yeah pretty much, lots of content creating jobs that pay pretty terribly and not much else unless you have years of experience in professional editing, which college apparently doesn't count towards. Go figure! I currently work for thehoth.com as well. It's article writing for very different topics. The work is come and go, but I got about $150 for around 22 hours of work, which is super helpful for me. It's roughly $12 an hour, so if that's something you'd be into, totally check it out. It's my first actual paid writing gig, and while the pay isn't like super fantastic, its miles and above the other content creating jobs I found throughout my search. Your status is awesome and you should feel awesome. I'll definitely check out thehoth.com. Thanks for the suggestion! In regards to your other post, I'd love to break into the comic industry someday. I live in close proximity to quite a few big name comic companies, so I'm hoping to land an internship or something at some point, but until then, I'm really content with any kind of writing. Most of my experience is journalistic. It's definitely a tough industry to be in right now though. I've considered taking some extra courses in grant writing just so I can land some work in my field That's really cool, working on comics would definitely be a dream come true I'm sure! Yeah I feel the same, if I'm writing SOMETHING then I'm good for now, even if it isn't exactly what I'm aiming for. I can't draw for sh*t and my singing is just okay, so this writing thing needs to work out, or else my artistic side will just wither up and not live so good no more.

Hello everyone. I've been lingering around the forum since the start and thought that I would share a little bit about myself since I feel I know quite a bit about some of you. I am a military spouse - my husband has been in the navy for 17 years. We have 5 awesome kids that keep me quite busy. So you can see how working from home is beneficial to me. It also affords me the time to take my mom to dialysis and care for her when needed. I feel so fortunate to have come across the comment section of an article from which this forum became a thought and happy that admin took the time to create it. I do not post often - I'm more of a listener than a sharer – but I'm always happy to read everyone's posts. You guys have become a great source of consolation during this stressful time, so thank you for that. However, I know things are going to work out wonderfully for us all; this is just another bump in the road. Good luck to you all!!

Hello Everyone! I've been solely WAH for the last 2 yrs now. I'n in sunny CALIFORNIA! It seems to be a lot more difficult to find jobs that hire residents in my state. I've learned a lot over the past couple years, but there's always more to learn. I'm so glad to know about another board on this topic! I hope to learn a lot here. Thank you WFHRevolution for starting this board.

I have been looking at your wonderful forum for a while and just signed up today. I was a live in Nanny until I met my husband and a live out for the first 15 years we were married. As a live out nanny I worked what ever hours the parents worked plus their commute time. I normally worked from 6AM until after 6PM not including my own commute of 30 min each way. When the family I had been working for got transferred my husband and I said we were getting too old for these hours. I started selling limited edition doll and collectibles on eBay. For about 3 years it was going great but the economy and high shipping cost did in my business. I had to change my path this year. I have doing Lionbridge for about 5 months. I am doing a little of this and that swagbucks, Amazon Turk, isoft crowd work(pennies). This week I got an email that I could test for an isoft hourly job, I just signed my NDA and am waiting for next step. I have lived in NJ for almost 20 years but am originally from Wisconsin. I live about an hour from the Twin Cities growing up. I am looking forward to getting great tips about WFH strategies and getting to know people. One of the hardest parts of working from home the long hours with out anyone to talk too.

Hello, I've been snooping around this forum for a while now, but I think it's fair to introduce myself since I seem to know some of you already! I'm a military spouse and have been moving constantly between my home country Germany and the States for the last 20 years. My husband recently retired and we decided we wanted to settle down in Wisconsin. Since he's originally from Chicago we've been bunking together with our 12 and 15 year old kids in Illinois, until the opportunity to move north arises. I'm a teacher and been working with visually impaired and blind teenagers, so working from home is such a new and exciting experience! Nobody is talking back to me, it's incredible!!! I am still getting used to the fact that I am actually working and getting paid after years of staying at home and raising our kids...I have to keep reminding myself that I actually have to tick the "employment" box now, when someone asks, lol. I do miss my home Bavaria at times but I think Wisconsin will be the closest I can find in the States that will remind me of my home...I heard the beer up there's not too shabby either! I'm really glad I found this forum, good luck to y'all and many many tasks for us to come!

Ok, here is my longer intro:
I live in the San Francisco Bay Area where I had been a Reference Librarian for over 25 years, other research jobs before that. I decided to retire at the "young age" of 53 because my mom had just died and I decided I wanted to enjoy the rest of what remains of my life. So in 2013 I retired and never looked back. I've been enjoying my time doing whatever I want but decided I wouldn't mind working from home for some extra money. I started at Appen, didn't like it so I quit, then iSoftStone, quit again. After about a year I got an email from ZC and filled out the copies amounts of paper work, now waiting to get approval from management for a start date of 7/11/16. English rater position.
I also write fiction and have been working on a novel for about two years, did some editing for an online publishing house in the US and some editing of English translations from a publisher in Italy. I hang with my dog, Frankie, watch SF Giants baseball and cook and just be with friends and family. Just being is the best part of retirement.
I have health insurance and a pension from my old job so luckily I don't have to depend upon any other job as my main income but I do want to keep my brain busy.
Happy to find this forum!

I was also military spouse over 20 years and moved to UK, Germany (9 years in Europe & 5 years in Asia), and the stateside. My husband retired from military service several years ago and still works on base. My children are in their 20's. One of them joined in Air Force, currently serving. I respect you how you work with visually impaired teenagers. I took an ASL course, which prompted me to see things in a different way. I just wanted to say hi to a fellow military spouse and bilingual rater. Glad to meet you here.

Hello all~! I'm Fluffy, and I finally quit my vet receptionist job this Sunday! They kept cutting my hours down to nothing and I got paid less than $11 an hour (BEFORE taxes) so I figured I'd be better off in the work-from-home world No more cranky pet owners or sad visits... and no more having to ask my dad for rent money. I'm in my early 20's and a student in Computer Science...whenever I can afford to go to school lol. I will finally be returning next semester, after a 1 year break. I'm so excited to go back! My degree requires a decent amount of math (which i am HORRIBLE at) and tons of difficult computer programming classes, and honestly I don't think my original job was going to be flexible enough for me to get the grades I need. I do suffer from ADHD and anxiety, so working my part time job that was barely paying my bills ON TOP of my difficult classes was too much for me. Multiple teachers have told me it would be in my best interest to just have school, not work, since my degree is so challenging but it can't be an option for me due to financial reasons. I have been very worried about going back to school this semester because last semester my stress got so bad that I actually wound up failing two of my lower-level classes...and I never fail classes. It was very devastating to me and dropped my GPA considerably, and I've been worried about returning to school ever since. I've been searching for a solution of a job that will be flexible enough that I can take a break if I get too stressed, or that I can work on when i want a "break" from my homework, and I can't believe it took me so long to decide to just do online jobs. My roommate works for Appen, actually, so I probably should have figured this would be a good fit for me sooner I tried applying for lionbridge a while back and didn't like it, and I knew I probably wouldn't want to work at Appen, but I never even looked for other companies before. So, last week I decided to apply for Leapforce and lo and behold I passed the exam just fine and I actually enjoyed parts of it, which is a good sign! While i'm in-between paychecks I plan to do some light mturk work for a little extra spending money, so I think I'll have a good system for myself from here on out. The community here seems very helpful and nice, so I look forward to learning more by being here. Thanks guys

Retiring and settling down in ONE place after vagabonding for 2 decades isn't easy, is it??? I'm not sure if I'm ready to completely settle, I feel I still have bumble bees in my rear end...lol ASL is awesome, I'd love to take a course also (I am not sure how it will help me with my clientele though, lol) it sounds very interesting, though! Just out of curiosity, what other language are you rating in? Nice to meet a fellow military spouse, too!

I always say - I retired not rich in funds but I'm rich in time! I'm diabetic and after caregiving for my mom for 9 years I was tired and broken down and wanted to concentrate on other stuff, life being just one thing! As far as retirement goes for your hub - you need at least a year just to decompress! No big moves, no new jobs, just relax and heal from years of work and, in my case, a lousy boss! Good luck, female71
